ONR YIP Award to Help Create Autonomous Navy Ships

MIE Associate Professor Sze Zheng Yong was awarded a $750K Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program Award for “Distributed Coordination of Autonomous Swarms with Limited or Absent Communication and Intermittent Data.” Yong is one of only twenty-five to share nearly $17.5 million in funding to conduct innovative scientific research that will benefit science and technology for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

Sharon Melul Steinfeld, BS, industrial engineering and MS, Engineering Management, completed co-ops at Hasbro as a project engineer on the Transformer toy line, and at PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant for company mergers. Sharon got a full time job offer 18 months before graduating and contributes this to her co-op opportunities.

Northeastern Research Study Shows the Potential of AI for Stem Cell Manufacturing

MIE Assistant Professor Wei Xie, the primary investigator for a Northeastern research study on bio-drug automation and manufacturing, explains the part that AI can play in successful cell cultivation. Two papers recently published by Xie and her co-authors propose models for predicting mechanisms in both singular cells and clusters of cells.
